I think this work has a real sense of warmth to it! Story-wise, it's the classic "master falls for the maid" development. The maid notices her feelings for her master and chooses to run away, which stirs up some turbulence in the story, leading to the two of them confessing to each other later. At the end, the sweet daily life of the two of them bickering a little really made me laugh~ What's wonderful is how genuine the maid's confession in her letter feels. Afraid of the pain of parting, she tried to protect herself with a listless, indifferent attitude. Even though she'd fallen for her master, she found herself jealous of his other intimate relationships, and at the same time felt afraid of herself for feeling that way. So in the end, she chose a somewhat "selfish" path. This confession feels extremely genuine. The psychological depiction is a wonderful touch. Also, elements like her "listless attitude," her "somewhat selfish act of running away," and her hesitation to face her true feelings despite her frank confession, are all fascinating aspects of this work. This kind of inner conflict is what makes the work so wonderful in terms of emotional expression. Needless to say, Suzuka Minase's performance is wonderful. Minase-san's voice perfectly suits the maid's initial "listless" mood. And as the story progresses, it carries a charm that lets you feel the rising emotions. I'll keep cheering Minase-san on! The story begins with Kotone coming to her master's mansion for an interview. However, she has a listless attitude, doesn't even use polite speech, and even yawns. While listening, my fists trembled more than once, tempted to throw salt at her and drive her out — but surprisingly, the "master" hires her. I thought, "Ah, I see, so during the day she'll be worked to the bone by the head maid, and at night thoroughly broken into obedience, body and soul, through the master's passionate 'educational guidance'" — I got kind of excited about that — but unexpectedly, she settles in normally and seems to work reasonably diligently. Argh. The description mentions there being some serious elements, but don't worry, it's not a heavy story. In the part where Kotone's secret is revealed, you can somehow imagine the life she led before coming here, and the way she's spent her time at the mansion that isn't directly told. Throughout, it's a minimal work expressed with only the bare minimum of sound effects, but around this point, the theme of Tokyo Love Story is bound to start playing in your head. The two happily end up together, but she keeps working as a maid, valiantly. Surely it's to enjoy the thrill and sense of taboo of flirting while risking being seen by the other maids. No doubt about it. While maintaining that languid, ennui-filled air, the way she presses her lips to his whenever she gets the chance seems like Kotone slowly confirming the weight of something precious to her. In a future sequel down the line, we'll surely get to see her being lovey-dovey and clingy. No doubt about it. Besides Kotone, three other maids appear, but unfortunately there's almost no interaction with them. Since Kotone's flat, matter-of-fact narration continues for much of it, I felt it could have used a bit more variety — like some scenes of the master fondly watching the maids' lively work, for instance. Even with few lines, each of them has a presence and charm. They're probably all also intimate with the master.
