The inn: Nekomeikan. All kinds of people—and non-people—take the form of cats here, working, or not working (because, well, they're cats)... They live freely, as they please, yet each carries some unspoken unease in their hearts. And today marks the beginning of the once-in-a-decade festival: the "Nine Souls Festival." This is the very festival from which the saying "a cat has nine lives" is said to originate. Its main purpose is to cleanse the impurities that have accumulated at Nekomeikan, washing them away along with a vessel offering. The Chosen One (our protagonist) who dwells in the living world is regarded as a deity, and through the shrine maiden's service, the turbulent spirit is calmed. In the end, the human visitor—the rare guest from another world—together with the shrine maiden who accompanies him, carries away the impurity and is swept back into the living world. In short, it's a festival in which cat girls serve the Chosen One as shrine maidens, all in hopes of being reborn once more into the living world. However, since so many of the cats deeply wish to be reborn as humans, a great many cat girls end up putting themselves forward as candidates for shrine maiden. As a result, over the two-month preparation period, through one thing and another, the festival evolved into one where the cat who becomes most beloved—"the one who wins the heart"—earns the right to become shrine maiden. This is an extremely famous festival in the afterlife, drawing intense attention. For this occasion alone, both heaven and hell find themselves glued to the screens of the otherworld's streaming site. Which cat girl will win and become the shrine maiden? Poised between this world and the next, the cat girls' romance game—no, ritual—begins.
"Nice to meet you. Um... will you come to like me?" A quiet, timid personality who tends to be a bit jittery. Since coming to Nekomeikan, she's grown able to honestly express her feelings. Polite and courteous, but not very good with words. She's extraordinarily considerate of others. She gets along especially well with Kuro Neko. She's quietly proud of her beautiful hooked tail.

Let me start with the conclusion: please listen to Track08. It's an absolute must-listen. Well, it goes without saying that the work as a whole is wonderful too, but personally I mean that I especially want to push Track08. Because it's "breath being forced out with effort, squeezed and strained." It's different from the whispers close to your ear like with ear cleaning, the shouts of effort during battle scenes, or so-called damage voices. As she presses down hard on your back and exerts force, the breath she exhales carries a feminine sensuality, making for a listening experience like no other. Her usual husky acting is great too, but in this work I got to fully savor a lush, alluring sensuality to my heart's content.
Sumire Uesaka's breathing is so sensual, it made my heart race! I especially love the sexy breaths during the massage. Being spoken to gently right at my ear while lying on her lap was incredibly pleasant, and her healing voice let me sleep peacefully. The moment I was told that the three hours of her speaking right into my ear were coming to an end, I was filled with a feeling of reluctance. I hope more voice works from Sumire Uesaka come out.
Since this was a voice work starring Sumipe, I bought it right away. In the early part, the breathing sounds were just so loud (the overall voice volume seems large?) that it was enough to drown out other sounds, which bothered me a bit. But by the second half, that calmed down and I stopped noticing it. During the ear cleaning scene and when she's applying foam to my face, I could feel her presence so close it felt like her breath was actually reaching me, as if I were really there — that part was really good. The final track was also one that lulled me to sleep, and I was able to listen to it feeling very calm. This was a voice work I'd recommend both to fans of Sumipe and to those who aren't. Since it seems to be part of a series, I'm curious about the follow-up works too.
