The purpose of the Kukonsai was to purify a curse by welcoming the protagonist—an "Imiko," or accursed child—as a Marebito at Nekonarukan and sending him back to the mortal world. By the end of Season 3, tension has begun to rise between the Cat God and the American Shorthair cat over the fate of the Kukonsai and Nekonarukan, and the existence of a "Great Proprietress" has been hinted at. In Season 4, "New Nekogurashi.", new characters tell the story of what became of the protagonist and the cat girls after the Kukonsai came to an end. 【Season 5: "Nekogurashi.
