Tomo and Ai are apparently going to perform a tea ceremony called "usucha" (thin tea). Once the tea ceremony is done, it's time to kill some time playing a memory-matching game! But Boku-kun and Mako-chan should do their homework, okay? The charcoal crackles as it burns, and the heated iron kettle lets out a thin, high-pitched whistle as the water boils. That shakashaka whisking sound while preparing the tea is something unique to the tea ceremony. In the "usucha" style of tea ceremony, the tea is meant to be drunk in three sips, finishing with a soft slurping sound as you draw in the last of the foam — or so the line in the main story claims. Actually, that's a lie: you're free to drink it in however many sips you like. By the way, the main story features the Urasenke school's "bon-ryaku temae" style. It feels like you're listening to natural, everyday conversation just as it is. But I don't think you'd get audio like this just by recording ordinary chit-chat. Many voice works have the protagonist (=listener) be the one something is done to (like ear cleaning, for example), but the key part of this work is that the protagonist is simply present within the conversation among the heroines — no one's providing a healing situation for the protagonist's sake or doing anything special for him. But that aspect actually worked in the work's favor. The banter between the voice actresses has truly exquisite timing. There are many scenes where someone immediately jumps in with a retort the moment something differs from what they were thinking. The protagonist being called "Boku-kun" doesn't have a strong impact, but it somehow sticks with you — it's hard to just let it pass by. It's a clever touch. Also, the cover art and the heroines' character art aren't what you'd call "moe" style, but I felt it matched the work's atmosphere well. The runtime comfortably exceeds 3 hours. It's divided into 5 major parts, but even a single part has more volume than some shorter voice works. With this much volume, three voice actresses are always performing together, and you get to enjoy their interplay throughout. 800 yen is way too cheap for this. At the time I'm writing this review, I had purchased 339 voice works from DLsite, and this one definitely makes it into the top 5 among them. Actually, I'm inclined to think it might be #1. Recommended! Truly recommended.
I don't know the reason, but this circle's works have an incredibly high sense of immersion. Maybe it's because the quality of the three actresses' voices and acting skill, along with the quality of the various sound effects, are all matched at just the right level (not just each being high quality individually, but the level being consistent across all of them)? Something like the sound itself, or some kind of atmosphere, comes through, and intuitively makes you think "this is a good work." And that expectation turns out to be correct. Rather than deliberately making special sounds loud or long, the individual sounds are actually handled fairly plainly, and because of that, the overall atmosphere feels incredibly real and heightens the immersion. Also, the "pauses" that voice works tend to avoid are used properly here, which helps bring out the realism, and even listening to the three of them converse, I never felt it was noisy at all. By the way, the rhythm of the banter between the three of them is truly exquisite, but even setting aside the cleverness of the scenario itself, isn't it quite difficult to create conversation this pleasant to listen to with a multi-person recording? Whether they recorded individually or all gathered together, the fact that there's absolutely no sense of unnaturalness between the lines is really impressive. Anyway, the quality is high. Even the weak thumbnail, which was the only weak point of the previous work, is now perfected with the cute character art added this time. Please give us a sequel.
Following the previous work set in summer, this one's setting is winter. Speaking of winter, there are plenty of "that" kind of activities to do together with the three sisters. Just like the previous work, the banter among the three sisters is charming, and I found myself struck by a sensation of almost imagining "Boku-kun" as a single personality within it.
