It finally arrived this year, 2023. The new installment of Neko Gurashi, Season 5, and the voice actress is Ayane Sakura, back after a while. This time, the trial ritual involves reincarnating into another world to heal human relationships through comforting hospitality — that's the content of this Season 5 "Isekai Reincarnation" arc. That said, I think it's more accurate to say she possesses a living woman in another world rather than actually reincarnating there. There's no connection to the past shown so far, and the being you become isn't the "cursed child" from the previous Season 1-3 works. As for the work itself, it's problem-free to listen to and quite healing. With Ayane Sakura's voice, ear cleaning, massage, and so on, it's a work you won't regret buying. However, I do have three personal complaints. First, I wish they'd do something about the order of the healing acts. After the massage, there's ear cream followed by ear cleaning, and I can't help but wonder if the cream is okay to leave on. So personally, I think it would be better to group the massage segments together and the ear segments together. For the ear part, I'd prefer starting with ear cleaning and then doing the cream massage afterward. Second, the ear cleaning segment is too short. Lately the massage segments have been getting more time, so I wish the ear cleaning would get the same amount of time as the massage. Third, there's no ear blowing. It feels like a waste that there's no finishing ear blow after the ear cleaning. Well, I'm not sure if such a famous voice actress would do that or not — even within CANDY VOICE works, some have it and some don't. This is a work with both good points and bad points. I wonder how this series will turn out? I hope the whole series comes out within this year. In any case, if you want to be healed by Ayane Sakura's voice, you won't regret buying it. Please enjoy the main story.
The new series is the "Isekai Reincarnation" arc, but if you ignore the first half of Track 1 and the latter half of Track 9, it can be listened to as a normal, contemporary-setting ASMR work. The sound quality, which was a bit lacking in Series 4, has improved, and I feel it's now very pleasant to listen to as ASMR. Ayane Sakura's acting is also wonderful — cuter than when she appeared as the Korat cat in Series 3, with a slightly bewitching charm that was lovely. However, this work has an issue in that most of it is taken up by massage tracks. Massage inevitably lacks a tactile sensation and takes place farther from the ear, so it tends to reduce immersion. I think it would be better for ASMR purposes to not try so hard to be unconventional, and instead go with a basic approach of ambient sound plus ear-focused content. Given the trend so far, it seems like this entire series will follow this format, which is a bit of a letdown. <Good points> - Ayane Sakura's voice and acting are wonderful - Sound quality has improved from the previous season - Easy to listen to with few unnatural lines like awkward echoing/repeating - Furudo Nao's character is very cute and likable <Bad points> - Massage-centric, so it's a bit lacking as ASMR - The ear cleaning track is disappointingly short - Feels like there's less ambient sound this time...?
In terms of the menu compared to previous audio works, unlike past series, it's nice that there's a lot of sweetness this time since she's shown to have feelings for you. I'm glad this series has a solid amount of massage. Since I like massage-type content, having more massage is great. The slightly cheeky junior kouhai vibe is nice. This has become the series I'm most looking forward to the next installment of so far.
