Then one day, the protagonist—a younger brother who was supposed to be dead—arrived at Myouren Temple. This is a youthful harem story in which the protagonist resolves the worries and complexes these problem children carry, and ends up beloved by them all. Also known for her eggplant-like umbrella, she's an umbrella-obake girl—a discarded umbrella that became a youkai. She's the type of youkai who satisfies her hunger by startling humans, but since she's bad at scaring people, she's often lamenting her hunger. She's friendly and mischievous, with a personality similar to a fairy's. Thanks to her youkai nature, she's also skilled in blacksmithing. In this work, she tries to scare humans to let them know just how charming an umbrella she is, but since she's actually a good kid at heart, scaring people just isn't really suited to her, and lately no one seems to get scared by her anymore. Because of this, she'd been drifting a little toward delinquency, but meeting the protagonist (the listener) begins to change her. She sometimes refers to herself as "wachiki" (a nod to her canon character).
A youkai called a nue who had once been sealed underground. She lives by the creed of remaining an unidentifiable mystery, and takes mischievous delight in watching humans grow frightened of the unknown. After Byakuren graciously accepted her despite the trouble she'd caused, Nue came to admire her and began living at Myouren Temple. That said, due to her personality and past circumstances, she still feels a bit out of place there. In this work, true to her youkai nature, she enjoys things people find unpleasant, but deep down she's actually the most maidenly of the three. She's skilled at giving massages using her tentacles.
A tsukumogami of masks known as a menreiki. Numerous masks float around her, which she uses to express her emotions, though her own face always remains expressionless. After obtaining a new mask of hope, she took Mamizou's advice and set out traveling from place to place, hoping to gain emotions of her own and stabilize her powers. In this work, though she always keeps a poker face, she's approachable, and actually has a secretly naughty side. Even with her poker face, she shows surprisingly emotionally rich whispers.
