In imperial China, a scholar-official demoted from court and a powerful eunuch military commander secretly correspond as pen pals, unaware of each other's true identity. As their letters grow more intimate, they must navigate misunderstandings, status barriers, and factional court struggles to reach a hard-won happy ending.
Xie Yilu had originally placed third (Tanhua) in the highest imperial examinations, but after offending the head eunuch of the Directorate of Ceremonial, he was demoted and sent to Nanjing, where he became entangled in the eunuch factions' power struggles. Because of one incident, he angered Liao Jixiang, the Rank 4 Superintendent of Weaving, and was nearly assassinated. Dejected and furious, Xie Yilu arranged to secretly meet, in a thicket, the pen pal with whom he had been exchanging letters — only to discover that this correspondent was none other than Liao Jixiang. Enraged, he stormed off. Afterward, unable to simply let it go, Xie Yilu wrote to Liao Jixiang, and the two met again in the forest, where they cleared up their misunderstanding and finally came to understand one another. But soon after, the faction that had backed Liao Jixiang was brought down, and Liao Jixiang himself was implicated and escorted under guard to the capital. Xie Yilu followed after him along the way, tending to him. In the end, Liao Jixiang won his freedom in exchange for self-inflicted injury before the Emperor, and he and Xie Yilu were at last joined together as a devoted couple.

I really hope background playback can be added, that would be so convenient, thank you!! Da Dang is my childhood's favorite work! Being able to hear the full version — I'm literally in tears.
Both the CV performances and the production quality are top-notch. All 15 episodes are packed with sincerity, and most importantly, the complete version is such a huge help — it really did travel abroad and then come back "imported," haha. But I'm more than willing to support it hard for the quality alone. The story follows a serious drama style, portraying the love and hatred between the leads and supporting characters vividly and thoroughly, and it's a rare eunuch-themed story — I feel like pairing it with the original novel while listening to the drama CD makes for an even better experience. I recommend anyone who likes this genre to give it a listen, okay?!!!
This is what a proper drama CD should be like! (Mr. Chen Jiaheng is truly... truly amazing////) The animated broadcast version cut so much out that I started to wonder if what I'd read before was some fake version of the original (I read the unabridged traditional Chinese physical book) Although there's still a difference in the scale of the "action" compared to Japanese ASMR works, it's still amazing that a Chinese commercial drama CD can have content like this I hope future commercial drama CDs will all get overseas versions!
