1. Worldview fraud What the game synopsis says: A game heroine who awakens self-awareness searches for the whereabouts of her loved one within the game world. What it actually is: There is no game world, so there's also no heroine awakening self-awareness or searching for a loved one built on that premise. But you can't say it's completely absent either — it's a bait-and-switch that successfully sells you a whole different East Asian emotional-drain routine, and ultimately manages to edge its way back to the stated theme. See point 2 below for details. 2. ⭕⭕⭕ Do you all share the same brain via cloud sync I don't want to spend more effort building up to this, so I'll just say it directly. The truth is: the heroine's beloved boyfriend died, and the so-called "game world" is just her fantasy for avoiding the pain. What you thought it was: a game dungeon, the heroine defeating a higher-dimensional civilization to awaken her self. What it actually is: how to get over being a lovesick fool. It's not that overcoming the trauma of a lover's death is a bad theme, but is it really appropriate to wrap it in a game setting like this...? Especially when you also have ↓ 2.1 Everyone around her gets screwed over! Good thing it's "a game," otherwise how could everyone possibly be so kind and cooperative in playing along. Me: is this really good for her? The heroine's best friend is a wonderful best friend — she herself isn't in great mental shape either, kind of a red-flag girl, but for the sake of her beloved heroine she forces herself day after day to provide plenty of fake emotional support. There's a scene where she runs all over the place accompanying the heroine who's losing it, and she genuinely can't hold back tears anymore. The heroine's reaction is still to stay immersed in her own world, blankly watching her best friend break down emotionally. If you later choose to stay by the best friend's side, you get a "Best Friend" / "Endless Self-Torment Friend" ending. 2.2 The classic victim-turned-perpetrator, dressed up as "it's for your own good" There's a guy in a maid outfit with a gentle tone of voice and pierced ears, and his character art is actually pretty good-looking, but of course it's another letdown of a setup. Classic case of having been through hell himself, so he wants to "help" people who've lost hope find release — one ending has him strangling the heroine to death. I don't want to analyze this further... anyway, the title says it all, the vibe is way too strong. Summing up my grievances: The author built an interesting worldview, but then tore it down with a boring twist. As for how it circles back to "awakening self-awareness" and "searching for a loved one" — the true ending throws in a narcissistic bit of drama telling you that the loved one you're searching for is the self you abandoned! Me: well, at least the moral lesson is firmly delivered, that's already something! So in the end, three stars. I'm being very gentle here .jpg
This is the second time I've encountered this author's work. I hadn't tried the free version beforehand, but the introduction already mentioned the advantages of the paid version. What you can experience — aside from the beautiful artwork itself — is the grid-like decoration and style, which frequently flickers and sets off the background. There are things here you won't see in other works: the full-screen red tint during choices, pop-ups that resemble system UI, and finally, a certain ending related to the close friend, along with the shift in memory-related emotions — all of these really make your eyes light up. I'd recommend trying out the things you can only see by paying for it.
