In a hidden mountain village tucked away in Kochi, humans and yokai live side by side. You meet a lonely dog-spirit girl who works part-time at her friend's ice cream shop, and after you help her, she slowly opens up, revealing glimpses of her painful past. Told entirely in first person as her 'onii-san,' this binaural voice work blends gentle healing warmth with a touch of bittersweet sorrow.

A final sanctuary where humans and yōkai can live together. A hidden village deep in the mountains of Kōchi, Shikoku — Monobeno. As the nature of “fear” itself changes, this is the land where yōkai who are no longer feared by anyone, forgotten, and fading away, gather here as if fleeing to it. Behind this migration lies the truth that the local land deity, “Gokaiso-chan,” invites the yōkai in and supports their settlement. Yuki, the Snow Maiden yōkai from Hitoyoshi-Kuma, agonized endlessly over whether to accept the invitation, unable to move. Before Yuki grew too weak to move at all, Ingame — the yōkai who half-forcibly dragged her along — pushed her to migrate to Monobeno. Ingame is what’s known as an inugami-tsuki — a girl possessed by a dog spirit. Originally an ordinary human girl, she had the possessing spirit called inugami forced upon her — but through a miraculously long span of time, it merged with her, and thus was born an unfortunate yōkai that no one wished for and no one intended to create. Though she is an irreplaceable friend to Yuki, to humans she is seen as one of the yōkai, and to yōkai she is seen as merely an extension of humans — so Ingame has few companions she can truly open her heart to. Just as Ingame had hoped, Yuki escaped her dire situation through the move to Monobeno and succeeded in building the foundation of a new life — but Ingame, who is nothing more than an uninvited guest, has struggled to fit into the village. While working part-time at Yuki’s ice cream shop, she keeps striving to somehow improve her living conditions — and it is before Yuki, ever persevering, that you appear. To handle a group of customers, you are conscripted on the spot as temporary staff — and by weathering the crisis together, you earn Hoyuru’s trust. Cheerful, energetic, and caring toward others — yet prone to neglecting herself, Hoyuru is a bit precarious. We hope you’ll gently support her back with your own two hands. “No, no! Ingame’s the inugami — a dog spirit! I’m just what’s left after living so long possessed by a thing called an inugami, y’know! It just means my nose’s way, waaay sharper than a normal human’s, that’s all! So it’s not like your body odor’s strong or anything, mister! …If anything, Ingame likes your smell. Even if it was strong, I’d think of it as a treat, honestly.” “…Um, y’know? Mister— Since you asked me about it— And so, y’know? I remembered. Ingame… I— Long ago, I was an ordinary human — the daughter of a village headman. …I had a name — Hoyuru — That was my name, back when I was human.” …Inugami, kudagitsune, gedō — called by many names, these are “tsukimono,” cursed possessing spirits. Pitifully set upon her, yet miraculously she neither went mad nor died — and after an impossibly long span of time, she “merged” with it and was born as a yōkai. That is “Ingame.” Having forgotten even her human name, Hoyuru, Ingame lived hidden deep in the Kuma region, on Mount Ichifusa — until, before she knew it, she gained an irreplaceable friend. The yōkai who commands snow and ice — Yuki, the Snow Maiden. Yuki — gentle and deeply accepting, but lacking in initiative. Ingame — lively and caring, but not one to think too far ahead. The two of them, complementing each other perfectly, quickly became the best of friends, and spent a long, long time together, happily. But time is cruel. As “the Snow Maiden,” once so feared and revered, came to be dismissed as a mere fictional being, Yuki grew weaker and weaker by the day. It was in the midst of this that the invitation to Monobeno arrived. Even though she knew there was no other choice but to go, Yuki couldn’t bring herself to move — so Ingame half-forced, half-dragged her along, compelling her to migrate to Monobeno. The result was a great success for Yuki. She completely escaped the crisis threatening her very existence. But in return, Ingame found herself facing hardship in an unfamiliar land, one where she had not been invited. Thanks to Yuki’s best efforts to support her, she isn’t in danger of going hungry — but even so, she can’t see any prospects for the future at all. “I’ve gotta do something about this.” That’s what Ingame was thinking, when you appeared before her, out of some chance twist of fate. The time spent exchanging words and touching hearts with you begins to pry open the lid Ingame herself had sealed over her memories. Please, gently wipe away and stay close to the wounds Ingame hides behind her brightness and cheer. For surely, that time will bring you an irreplaceable healing of your own, too.
