She held my hand tightly, gently staying close to my heart, worn down by the daily grind of overwork. I searched for a way to convey the gratitude — so deep it ached in my chest — for the way she lovingly wiped away even my impurities, but I couldn't find words fit for the purpose. No matter how I tried to weave together my thanks, there simply were no words that could match her devotion. This complicated feeling, where gratitude and helplessness intertwine, twisted into some indescribable, invisible shape and tormented me. Days passed, and after Christmas had gone further past the holy night, amid the bustle of a town wrapped in a fluttering white veil, I headed to our meeting place, and there was Serina waiting, dressed in red tones, wearing the muffler I had once given her. Noticing me hurrying over, she bloomed a smile like a patch of sunlight, in contrast to the hour, and walked toward me. I listened to her talk in order to soothe each other's fatigue, but hearing about her devoted attitude toward patients as a member of the Rescue Knight Squad, I found myself disgusted with my own petty jealousy. As I sank into self-loathing, she — just as I had once done for her in the past — gave me a muffler of her own. Swept up in the afterglow of the holy night, before I knew it, I had let her put the muffler on me.
